Tooth sensitivity and gum health

Dental sensitivity

Why teeth become sensitive, which signs point to a gum problem, and when a check-up is warranted.

Tooth Sensitivity and Gum Health

Discomfort or brief pain from cold, heat, or sweet most often occurs when dentin (a sensitive layer connected to the nerve) becomes exposed.

What is the connection to the gums?

Healthy gums cover and protect the tooth roots. When gum recession occurs (caused by brushing too hard, gingivitis, or tartar), the tooth root loses its protection, and sensitivity appears immediately.

How to prevent and reduce sensitivity?

Brush gently: Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and gentle motions. Special toothpaste: Use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth. Complete hygiene: Use dental floss daily to prevent gum inflammation. Dental checkup: Go regularly for scaling and consultations.
