First visit: what to bring
What to bring to your first consultation, how long it takes and what you leave with.
What to bring
- Recent X-rays, if you have them: panoramic, CBCT or X-rays of particular teeth, on a USB stick or printed.
- A list of the medicines you take, including blood thinners and treatment for blood pressure, diabetes or osteoporosis.
- Recent blood tests, if you've had any, especially if a procedure is coming up.
- Treatment plans you've received before, if you'd like a second opinion.
- Any removable appliances you wear, such as a denture or a night guard.
If you have none of these, come anyway: we take the X-rays we need at the practice.
What to tell us at the start
What brought you in, what bothers you and what you'd like. Tell us too about any conditions you have, allergies, a pregnancy and any bad experience at the dentist. Nothing you tell us is a detail: it helps us choose how we work.
If you're nervous, tell us at the start. The first consultation is for explaining and getting to know each other, not for treating.
How long it takes and what you get
A first visit usually takes about half an hour, longer if we take X-rays. At the end we explain on the images what we saw, and you get a written plan with the options, the stages and an estimate.
You take the plan home and decide in your own time. Payment is by cash or card. More on what the consultation covers at Dental consultation.
