Panoramic X-ray

A single image showing all the teeth, both jaws and the surrounding bone.

What it is

A panoramic X-ray (OPG, orthopantomogram) captures in one image all the upper and lower teeth, their roots, the jawbones and the joints. It is the starting point for most treatment plans.

What it shows

Hidden decay between teeth or under fillings, infections at the root tips, bone loss from gum disease, impacted wisdom teeth and missing teeth. For fine detail on one tooth, it is complemented by a small X-ray or a CBCT scan.

What it's like

You stay still for a few seconds while the machine passes in front of you. It doesn't hurt and uses a low radiation dose. If you are pregnant or think you might be, tell us first.
